The Veil
The Veil continues my ongoing exploration of the body as a site of memory, protection, and inheritance. The partially obscured figure meets the viewer with a steady gaze, existing somewhere between concealment and revelation. Rather than hiding the body, the veil becomes a space where vulnerability and resilience exist at the same time. Brass upholstery tacks reference both adornment and labor, drawing from the visual language of domestic materials that often appears throughout my practice.
Their presence points to histories of making, repair, and care while also suggesting the structures, expectations, and forms of protection that are carried across generations. As light moves across the surface, the brass catches and reflects it, causing the work to shift subtly as the viewer changes position. Like much of my work, The Veil considers how the body holds personal and inherited histories, using material as a way to speak about what cannot always be seen.
